Exklusivinterview mit Honky Tonk Man
How did you get into the wrestling business?
Some of my college roommates where doing it and they invited me to workout with them and I kind of just let it over take me.

How did you get your music gimmicks (Punk Rock + Honky Tonk)? Who came up with them?
I created those. The Punk Rock was light years ahead of its time. It was a good heel heat gimmick. The Honky Tonk Man was created as a heel gimmick to carry on after I killed the Punk Rock gimmick off. It worked well and never missed a beat.

Since leaving WWF many years ago, you have been out of the public eye. What have you been doing the last few years?
I wrestle around the world on the indy shows. I do 80-100 events a year. I am happy doing it, that is why I keep doing them.

Could you influence your gimmick?
I had total control on the way I played my gimmick.

Describe a good heel!
Gets the heat to the point the fans just want him killed. Heat in that the fans will drive hundreds of miles, stand in long lines just to get a ticket to see this Heel get his ass kicked!

How would you compare the past WWF wrestling style to the current WWE style?
We drew larger crowds for a longer amount of time than they have lately. We must have done something different, wouldn't you say?

What do you think of the new breed of wrestlers?
Not trained very well.

WWE dropped the WWE Intercontinental Title only to reinstate it again - what are your thoughts on this subject?
If they continue to change and discard belts at a moments notice, then the belt means nothing. Such is the case with all the WWE belts, they mean nothing!

Do you think that longer title reigns would improve the business today?
Yes, It would establish stars and it helps a guy get over.

Please tell us all a little bit about your "Internet feud" with Roddy Piper!
Piper must have been behind on his net reading, By that, I mean this was an old story about a booking I had with another promoter. Piper got involved in the promotion and I canceled my booking. I wrote a story about it on my site and Piper must have read it a year later. He got pissed and started doing what he does best, tell lies.

How was your recent tour in South Korea?
It was really good. The crowds around Seoul are not good and haven't been for years. The towns away from Seoul draw very well. I hope to get back soon.

How was your WCW stint in 1994?
Horrible! I was promised a contract and when it didn't come at the time Bischoff said it would, I walked out. No regrets at all.

Who can save the business?
Only the promoters can do that with talent and angles the fans respond to.

Can you remember how many guitars you smashed over people's heads in your career?
No I cannot. There were a few.

Vince McMahon is recently signing a lot of veterans; do you think that it´s a good idea and would you like to have another run in WWE?
We would all like another run. The idea is fine if you us the talent the right way.

Have you ever wrestled in Germany, if so what did you like most and what didn't you like?
I never wrestled there. I have a friend there named Dave Morgan. He wrestled in Germany several years. Tell him I said hello if you speak with him.

Is there anything you´d like to say to all your German fans?
Boycott all WWE shows till WWE can offer a better product! Just kidding. The fans in Europe are great. They are very loyal. The German fans are just as great.

word association:
Vince McMahon: Genius----LOL What can I say? He has made more money than all of us. He must be smarter than us!
Elvis Presley: Killed himself out of boredom.
Ric Flair: Needs to stay home and train his bean pole son in the gym.
Roddy Piper: A goof.
Eric Bischoff: An asshole.
Stu Hart: A great person who will be missed in our industry. A stand up guy.
Jerry Lawler: Backstabber
Grandmaster Sexay: A good talent who will never get his shot as long as his egotistical father is around.
Billy Gunn: Takes toooo many bumps.
Jesse James: Too much party life, Good talent.
Greg Valentine: Old and Slow. He left me in a town in Texas 2 hours from the airport. I had no way home. He never apologized, for that I don't care if I ever see him again.
Marc Mero: Worked hard at learning, but was never trained properly. Nice fellow, treated me with respect.
